Your own ‘Arabian Carpet’

Our Travel Partner, Celebrity Cruises, have just announced this amazing Weekend Sale commencing Friday, 30th June 2017 and ending on Monday 3rd July 2017.  So – what are you waiting for because we are waiting for you – to help choose your holiday of a lifetime. The destinations of the Arabian Sea & India are hives of culture and activity giving you a vast array of fascinating and iconic places to visit.   Flights from London Heathrow with the award winning Emirates airline will take you to Abu Dhabi  where Celebrity Cruises are the first cruise line to home port in this city, giving you plenty of time to explore before your cruise. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and located off the mainland on an island in the Arabian Gulf. What was a fishing village has now been transformed into a thriving modern metropolis thanks to the discovery of oil.  The past has not been forgotten and the museums, mosques and bazaars are in sharp contrast to the futuristic skyscrapers and luxury hotels/resorts – it is really an architectural paradise with some of the most breathtaking buildings you will ever see. Unique in its fusion of history and modern life, Abu Dhabi has plenty to offer as a cruise holiday destination.  One of my favourite places to visit must be the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (the White Mosque), a beautiful and most peaceful place where beneath white-marble domes you will find an immense Persian carpet, crystal chandeliers and the most exquisite tiling on both walls and floors, marvel at the space which has the capacity for...

These include the islands of Malta and Corfu but top of the list must be Majorca which has been a firm favourite with UK travellers for many years and is only us and the Irish who use the word ‘Majorca’, to everyone else, it is Mallorca. Majorca is an island that has it all – stunning scenery with turquoise-blue seas, glorious beaches, majestic mountains but also steeped in history with a rich cultural scene and a vibrant capital city, Palma de Mallorca.  In Majorca you can choose from a luxury retreat in the hills – where you are away from the madding crowds, a beach resort – with all the activities you need or a city which gives you culture, shopping,...

Best of the West

Last week we featured the East Coast of America so this week we have transversed this great country to feature, in conjunction with our Travel Partners, Seasons, the “Best of the West”. This is a fantastic 15 night holiday and really delivers what the title offers visiting the most iconic destinations on the West Coast.  It has been some years since I took a similar holiday visiting most of these places leaving me with some of the most memorable experiences that I have ever had. The holiday begins with your outbound international flight to Los Angeles where you will stay at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverley Hills for two nights. If location is everything, then the Four Seasons has it all sewn up. But aside from being perfectly positioned for forays into LA’s hottest spots, step inside and you’ll find the glitz and glamour of La-La Land is replaced by quiet elegance and calm tones, and its outdoor pool ideal for making the most of the city’s year-round sunshine.                 Los Angeles or ‘the City of Angels’ is an essential stop and a good starting point on any itinerary of the western USA. It offers an endless array of sightseeing and entertainment and is exactly as you imagine it to be from the movies and television shows. A city of glamour, glitz, sun, palm trees, beaches, shops, landmarks and legends, whatever you are looking for you are sure to find. Los Angeles is a fun destination yet has a sophisticated vibe with a lot of ‘must do’s’ such as a...

New England in the Fall plus Canada

Nature gives us some wonderful sights and experiences and one of the most popular must be to visit New England in the Fall and there is no better way to enjoy this experience than by taking a cruise from Boston to Montreal.  So, together with our Travel Partner, JTA Travel, we are offering you this opportunity to discover all this beauty from just £1,325 per person. This itinerary is on a lot of people’s ‘To do’ list, it was certainly on mine and was one of the most enjoyable cruises I have experienced.  The cruise on offer is very similar to the one I took so I will guide you up the East Coast of America from Boston to Montreal, Canada. With a choice of UK departure airports you will fly across the Atlantic and commence your holiday in Boston with a two night pre-cruise stay. Boston is the capital and largest city in Massachusetts, founded in 1630 it is one of the oldest cities in the United States of America.  It is, therefore, an historic city and you can discover the key role it played in the American Revolution by taking the Freedom Trail, a 2.5 mile walking route of historic sites which tells the story of the nation’s founding making the city in effect, one enormous outdoor history museum. Boston also has a wealth of museums and galleries such as The Museum of Fine Arts for you to explore at your leisure also you can sample some of Boston’s world class dining and shopping options.  Visit the Waterfront where you can sit and relax with a cup of...

Hot Honeymoons!

Getting married and looking for that idyllic location for your honeymoon, then you could do no better than choosing one of the two ‘M’s’, Mauritius or the Maldives.  What is even better is that if you are holding your nuptials this year then our Travel Partner, THG Holidays, have just the offers to help your budget. Both located in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius and the Maldives fit everyone’s dream of the perfect “get away from it all destinations.”   Offering year round sunshine, swaying palms, deserted white sand beaches, aquamarine blue seas (hiding an underwater world almost psychedelic in colour)  they have all the ingredients for a romantic honeymoon where peace and tranquillity awaits. Mauritius is a sparkling gem some 1,200 miles off the east coast of Africa in the southern Indian Ocean and was discovered by a Portuguese navigator in 1505 , the island was occupied successively by the Dutch, then the French and then ceded to Great Britain in 1814 before gaining independence in 1969.  Reassuring remnants of the British colonial era remain in the Gymkhana Club, tea plantations and driving on the left, but an active volcano, an abundance of palm trees, dhal puri stalls at markets and the ubiquitous dodo icon, add a touch of the exotic. Today the population consists of Hindus, Muslims, Chinese, Creoles and Europeans and it is this integrated, exotic pot-pourri of languages, customs, cultures and cuisine,  together with the renowned, friendly hospitality of the Mauritian people that makes this island so vibrant and appealing and one of the Indian Ocean’s most cosmopolitan islands. Mauritius offers both unparalleled luxury and tropical island...
